Royston Town 3–0 Great Wakering Rovers

FA Trophy preliminary round

GREAT Wakering Rovers are out of the FA Trophy after they were comprehensively beaten by Royston Town.

Three goals put them to the sword, with Rhys Hoenes, Scott Bridges and Ryan Towner scoring the goals.

Great Wakering needed a response against Royston after some stuttering results of late, although they faced a tough task against the side from the Southern Division One Central League.

They were sitting second in the standings in their league, and were facing a Rovers side bereft of confidence. However, manager Dan Trenkel had demanded a better showing after they went out of the FA Cup in disappointing fashion.

Hoenes picked up the ball on the left flank, turned inside and out and bent it beautifully beyond Adam Seal and into the corner.

Rovers were struggling to keep up with the hosts, collecting a number of late yellow cards, although they weren’t able to make an impression on the goal.

And they fell further behind after the interval. Good hold up work from Ryan Ingrey saw him link up well with Bridges and he slotted home after running onto the ball.

And they made sure of the result in the final 10 minutes. Substitute Josh Castiglione picked up the ball and fed the ball back to Towner who made no mistake, albeit via a deflection.

Jay Nash struck a post late on but the game was out of reach.
