ROCHFORD Hundred secured their first victory of the London Two North East season, beating Campion 24-12 at Magnolia Road.

Rochford had been beaten in their opening two games of the new campaign.

But there were no such difficulties on Saturday, much to the delight of their first team manager Graham Pratt.

“After the disappointment of the first two weeks it was good to make amends with this display of dominant rugby,” said Pratt.

“We dominated the scrum and the back-line looked far more organised and effective, due to a large extent on the return of Matt Stewart.

“He brought a mixture of experience, penetration and coolness which has been missing over the past weeks.

“But another factor was the growing influence of scrum half Ricki Gould who provided quick ball for Simon Ashton and the rest of the back line as well as making some darting runs which was great to see.”

Despite the final score-line, it was Campion who opened the scoring with a converted try but Rochford replied with winger Sam Edwards finishing off a fine move which Ashton converted to level the scores.

Rochford remained on top and their pressure finally told when impressive flanker Andrew Bevan powered through to score a try Ashton again converted.

Moments later, livewire Gould also darted through a stretched Campion defence to add a further five points which put Rochford 19-7 ahead at half-time.

After the break, Gould was at it again as he collected a pass from Bevan to score his second try of the afternoon.

And, despite Campion replying with an unconverted try, Rochford had already done enough to secure the win which took them up to seventh in the table.
