THE PREVIEW: Canvey Island play Wingate & Finchley for the second time in a fortnight tonight, and there is sure to be an added edge to the game after the conclusion of the last match.

Martin Tuohy nudged the ball over the line with his hand in injury time to give the Gulls a 2-1 win, much to the fury of the home support, who are a point below Danny Heale’s side in the Ryman Premier League.

Canvey have not won five consecutive league matches in the same season since the start of the 2011 campaign, with a win potentially good enough to lift them into third place.

The Gulls also enjoyed a weekend off league action, with their opponents playing in the FA Cup. Wingate went down 3-1 to Weston-super-Mare.

WHAT HE SAID: Canvey Island boss Danny Heale said: “It will have a bit of extra spice after what happened at the end of the last game and it was unfortunate but these things balance out at the end of the season.

“It was feisty but we are all focused on what we need to do tonight. We dominated the second-half last time and a draw probably would have been a fair result on the face of it but we want to keep this run going. But Wingate are a good side and it will be another good test for us.”
