SOUTHEND United’s under-21 manager Dave Robertson has ordered his young players to make the most of their opportunity against Redbridge tonight.

The Shrimpers take on the Ryman League One North side in third round of the Essex Senior Cup at Roots Hall.

And Robertson is keen to show off his side’s talents.

“It’s a big opportunity for the players and one we’re all looking forward to,” he said.

“It’s going to be a different kind of challenge to what they have been used to this season because Redbridge will be more physical than most under-21 matches.

“Our players need to stand up to that and they’ll also be playing in front of the first team coaches and manager so it’s a chance for them to show what they’re capable of doing.

“Being at Roots Hall under the lights will also add extra spice and it’s a game we’re looking forward to.”

Robertson hopes to have goalkeeper Ted Smith and centre-back Da Matsuzaka available after they returned from international duty.

Midfielder Jack Bridge could also play after recovering from an Achilles injury.

Tonight’s clash kicks off at 7.45pm with adult tickets available for £3 and concessions just £1.
