Crispian strides to PB5 victory

BILLERICAY Striders' Crispian Bloomfield continued his remarkable record of success when he won the Essex PB5 by over a minute.

In miserable wet conditions, Bloomfield, whose countless successes in the past year have included the Southend 10K, was in a class of his own.

He covered the five-mile road course, starting and finishing from Gloucester Park and covering the roads around Pipps Hill Industrial Estate in a time of 25 mins. 42 secs.

Ilford AC's Malcom Muir was runner-up on 26.46. Barry Stoddart, who runs for the Army and lives on Canvey, was third in 27.28.

First woman home, in seventh place overall, was Ilford AC's Karen Sindall in 28.56.

Billericay took runners-up spot behind Swanley and District in the "team of 10" competition, while Ilford were the top ladies' squad.

Billericay runners took two of the category prizes - the over-50 male through David Butler (30.37) and the female over-55 courtesy of Janet Pardon (35.34).

The accompanying children's fun run was won by Jamie Dawes from Joshua Inwood with fourth-placed Charlotte Wood the first girl home.

A total of 50 competed in the fun run while 133 completed the main race.
