DAN Walker continued his fine scoring sequence to fire Southend United in to the second round of the FA Youth Cup.

The striker bagged a brace in the Shrimpers’ 9-1 win at Barton Rovers on Wednesday night to make it six goals in his last seven games.

And the 18-year-old was thrilled to help Blues see off their hosts.

“I was pleased with the way the game and to get the two goals and two assists,” said Walker.

“It’s the second time we’ve been here as the game had to be replayed but we just had to get on with it.

“It was just another match and I thought we produced a good performance to make sure we won it.”

Walker, who has now scored 15 goals already this season, took his two goals impressively well.

And he could have claimed a hat-trick but opted to unselfishly square the ball for Damani Dias to score.

“The easy option would have been to have a shot myself but I thought I would pass it to what was best for the team,” said Walker.

“That matters most and I’m just really pleased we’ve been able to get through.

“Now we’re focusing on the Newport game in the second round and I’m confident we have a strong enough side to be able to go there and win as well.”
