KEVIN Maher is to be promoted to under 21 manager at Southend United, Echosport understands.
Maher, who spent 10 years with the Shrimpers during his own playing career and made more than 450 appearances for the club, is already working as a youth team coach at Roots Hall.
But he now looks set to put in charge of the under 21s after Dave Robertson left to become manager of Irish side Sligo Rovers.
