Great Wakering Rovers 1-5 Dereham Town
From Burroughs ParK
Ryman One North
GREAT Wakering Rovers endured a wretched afternoon as they were walloped 5-1 by Dereham Town.
There was little to separate the sides in the league table ahead of play but there was a clear gulf on the pitch as Rovers, who also had Stuart Hepburn sent off, lost out.
Both teams struggled to come to terms with the windy conditions at Burroughs Park, although the game only got away from the hosts at the end of the half.
Strikes from Luke Tuttle and Lewis Butcher in the 42nd and 45th minutes saw Rovers head into the break two goals behind.
The second-half failed to see the home side meaningfully test Dereham’s goalkeeper, although there was a debut for youth product Bailey Moss.
It was Butcher who was taking the game by the scruff of the neck, grabbing a second before completing his hat-trick 10 minutes from time.
Hepburn got his marching orders for a nasty, late tackle although they did get a goal back when Will Viner took the ball into his own net.
But Dereham were to have the last laugh as Robbie Linford added their fifth on 90 minutes.
Great Wakering Rovers: Seal, Pugsley, Kent, Barlow (Sands), Vaughan, Hepburn, Worrell, Bradley (Moss), Johnson, Nash, Cleaver (Jacobs)
