Basildon United were on the wrong end of one of the weekend’s most surprising results, as they were beaten 3-0 by Takeley.

Three second-half strikes ended the Bees resistance against the side sitting fourth from bottom in the league.

The first strike came just three minutes into the second-half, as Michael Ogboin buried his effort.

That was how it stayed until the final 10 minutes. After Paul Shave had been sent off for the hosts, Takeley doubled their lead before a delightful third from Olly Fortune compounded a wretched day for Craig Gillam’s side.

Hullbridge Sports claimed victory from the jaws of defeat as they followed up their FA Vase heroics with a 2-1 win over Waltham Forest.

Sports were indebted to goals from Luke Hornsley and Reece Brandon late on to lift them into eighth in the standings.

Charlie Little hit over in the early stages before Dean Wallace came close soon after, with Sports dominating the early exchanges.

Home goalkeeper Jamie Merrells was forced into action midway through the half and the away side did take, against the run of play, just after the interval.

But with two minutes to play, Sports got their breakthrough. Hornsley converted from the penalty spot and, barely a minute later, Brandon scored to Forest’s despair.

Southend Manor were beaten 3-1 by Eton Manor on a disappointing afternoon at Southchurch Park.

Rhys Fatt returned to the team, having missed the last match through injury, and he cut Eton Manor’s 2-0 lead in half after they had roared into an early lead.

But the visitors hit back to earn the points.
