THE PREVIEW: Canvey Island got a much-needed win over Farnborough last week to stop the rot, and manager Danny Heale has identitified this as a key game in their bid to return to the play-off hunt.

The Gulls travel to Brentwood and a victory could conceivably see them sit just five points off the top five come the end of the day.

A Tambeson Eyong goal was the difference between the two in October, and Canvey would take the same scoreline tomorrow.

Town are currently in the relegation places and are six points off safety.

Mike Flanagan, brother of Concord manager Adam, will be eyeing up this match as one his side can take the points from, with his team having seven games in hand on the Gulls.

WHAT HE SAYS: Gulls boss Danny Heale said: “I can’t see the game going ahead to be honest with you.

“Their match was postponed in the week but we will prepare in the same way and go into the game confident after a good result last week.

“Brentwood are fighting for their lives down there and we can expect a tough match. They have games in hand and will give it everything as they want to stay in this league.

“It was important to keep a clean sheet and Conor (Gough, left) played really well which was good for his confidence. I thought we deserved to win the game but he got us out of some sticky situations so it is important to have a goalkeeper you trust.”
