THE PREVIEW: Great Wakering looked as though they had turned a corner after four points and consecutive clean sheet against Cray Wanderers and Redbridge last month, but they have stuttered in the last two games.

They threw away a 2-0 lead to lose at Thamesmead, with a narrow 1-0 defeat to Bury following that loss.

They travel to Brightlingsea hoping to avenge last season’s 4-1 drubbing, although Regent are enjoying another strong season this time around.

They sit three points outside the play-off positions, and 25 ahead of Wakering who have been ensconsed in 16th position for the last few months.

WHAT HE SAYS: Wakering boss Gary Ansell said: “All I am looking for is consistency when it comes to performances at the moment.

“We played well against Cray and looked tight at the back, but we have looked open in recent games, albeit we only lost 1-0 against Bury Town.

“Brightlingsea are on a good run and they are a good team. I have had them watched and I know about their threats and we will do our best to nullify them.

“We are missing a few players but I remain confident as we have a strong squad of 21.

“We have good players and we tend to play well against the division’s better sides, and I hope that is the case at Brightlingsea tomorrow.”
