BOWERS & Pitsea and Ipswich Wanderers will do battle again on Tuesday in a bid to reach the FA Vase quarter-finals after they played out a draw 120 minutes in Suffolk.

After the game ended 1-1 after 90 minutes, 30 minutes overtime was played in a bid to get a winner but to no avail meaning the teams will go again at the Len Salmon Stadium for the right to host Kidlington.

It all started so well for Rob Small’s men, as James Stevens got his first goal for his new club. The midfielder took aim and fired a delightful strike home to hand the Essex Senior League club the advantage.

But the mid-table Thurlow Nunn Premier Division side hit back almost immediately, with Shane Wardley netting from a wide position, with question marks over whether goalkeeper Martyn Guest could have done better.

Lewis Manor shot wide for Bowers in their best chance but nothing could separate the two for the rest of the match.

In the Essex Senior League, Basildon United dropped more points in their bid to be champions as they drew 0-0 with Sporting Bengal United.

Hullbridge Sports also drew, as they shared the points and goals with London Bari.

Sports were without top goal scorer Luke Hornsley, and they went behind early on. Jimmy Cox had the best chance of the first-half for Hullbridge but his effort was cleared off the line.

Although they did get the goal they craved shortly after the break. An own-goal saw them draw level Hullbridge went behind early, but then pulled back due to an own goal, but Sam Taylor had to be replaced by player / coach Aaron Hunwicks at half time.

When Sports went behind again to a fantastic Bari strike in to the top corner midway through the second-half, manager Rob Hodgson came on himself and change formation to good effect, A period of Hullbridge pressure forced an equaliser late on before Bari went down to ten men after a second yellow, with Sports ending the day in 10th.

Southend Manor were 3-2 winners at Eton Manor.

A brace of penalties from Rhys Fatt and a strike from Michael Bottone saw Stuart Marshall’s team pick up three points.

Southend had an early lead when Fatt netted from 12 yards, only for Eton Manor to equalise soon after.

Fatt scored again on the stroke of half-time, only for Eton to strike back again. But Bottone got the goal late on to give the visitors the victory.

And assistant manager Jack Tebbutt was pleased with the performance.

“A good day at the office it was important to get the three points today and that’s what we did credit to the players who worked hard to achieve this,” he said. “We go again on Wednesday with another important game against Greenhouse.”
