THE PREVIEW: Billericay returned to winning ways with a 1-0 victory over Staines on Saturday, although the match wasn’t short of controversy.
Manager Craig Edwards criticised the referee’s performances, claiming he did not know what decisions were coming from the man in the middle.
George Beavan was sent off, a decision Billericay have now appealed, a penalty was awarded to Staines, which Edwards disputed, and the follow up from the penalty, which Jack Giddens had initially saved, was ruled out for encroachment, although players from both teams were in the box at the time.
Billericay now host Leiston, a team they have done well against in recent times. Town have scored eight in the last two home matches against them, although there is nothing between the teams in terms of the table.
Billericay, seventh, sit a place above Leiston, albeit having played a game more with both sides on 52 points.
WHAT HE SAID: “It was not an enjoyable game to watch on Saturday. It felt as though it went on for about four hours because you just didn’t know what the referee was going to do next.
“Some of the decisions were scandalous. I was told George’s red card was down to serious foul play but their player just kicked his foot. We have appealed and are confident it will be overturned.”
“We know Leiston are a good side and this is a really big week in our season. Leiston and Kingstonian want to achieve the same as we do this year so they are both six-pointers in terms of our goals this season.
“The win on Saturday put us back in the mix and we needed that. It galvanized the group and a good week would put us in a strong position heading into the final third of the season.”
