TAKING part in a marathon may be hard enough for most runners - but that does not include the amazing Ernie Jewson.
For the Hockley-based athlete - who is a member of Benfleet Running Club - has just completed a course more than five times longer, racing 145 miles in a time of 39 hours and four seconds.
Jewson's efforts came in the Grand Union Canal Run, which starts in Birmingham and ends in London.
Those taking part must complete the course in less than 45 hours and Jewson battled through to finish 22nd out of 80.
Thirty-five runners were forced to drop out and, having survived, Jewson is now planning to have six months off before selecting his next race.
He paid credit to his fellow club members and his family and friends who all supported him throughout the race.
"I was just the legs," he said.
