ROB Pearl had joy and heartache in equal measure when he scored his first ever hole in one at Rochford Hundred golf club.

The 18 handicapper got his ace on the 11th hole but unfortunately it was with his second ball, having hit his first into the pond. His card therefore recorded a par for the hole.

Rochford's Thornton cup team beat last season's semi-finalists Chigwell in the Essex inter-club Thornton Cup competition.

The match finished tied at 7.5 points each but Taylor Carter won the play off to set up a home tie against Stoke by Nayland on May 29.

Rochford are through to the second round of the Norman Plum Trophy on May 15. They will face Thorndon Park after defeating Stockbrook Manor 3.5-2.5 in the opening round.

Rochford beat Wanstead in the first round of the Jubilee Cup and will host Burnham on Crouch in the second round.

The Scott Spencer summer mid-week stableford competition saw Roger Newell (26) win on countback from Michael Jameison (9) after both scored 39 points. Wayne Fisher was third with 38 and saw his handicap cut by two strokes to 16.

Sue Proctor and Lorraine Norris were triumphant in the PING 4BBB qualifying competition at Rochford, winning from Terri Stanley and Carol Johnson. Proctor and Norris represent Rochford in the next round.
