DAVID Worrall will be leaving Southend United after rejecting the Shrimpers’ offer of a new contract.

The 25-year-old winger has been with Blues for the past two seasons, making 84 appearances.

But Southend boss Phil Brown has confirmed Worrall will not be extending his spell at Roots Hall.

“We’ve heard back from David now and he’s decided to reject the offer of a contract we put to him,” said Brown.

“We made him what we felt was a very good offer but he’s chosen not to accept it, which is entirely down to him.

“I’ve heard a few rumours linking him with a move back up north but also that a club in London are also keen on him, so it will be interesting to see what happens next.

“But Dave’s what he is, he’s done a decent job here and we wish him good luck for the future.

“However, it’s time for us to look for a replacement now and bring in people that do want to be here.”

Worrall joined Blues during the summer of 2014 and, after forcing his way into the starting line-up, he played a key part in them winning promotion via the League Two play-offs. The winger went on to make 29 starts last term but endured frustrating spells out of the starting line-up.

Worrall’s former club Bury, who tried to sign the winger on loan last term, are believed to be interested in bringing him back to Gigg Lane along with Millwall, who are in the League One play-off final this weekend.
