SOUTHEND & EMT moved up to third in the Division One standings with a two-wicket win against Woodford Wells.

Southend reached the required 238 to win for the loss of eight wickets.

And skipper Joe Robbins felt the victory showed the strength of his side’s battling line-up.

“It was vital we managed to get the win and it showed the quality in depth that we have with the bat,” said Robbins.

“At one stage we looked in complete control but it wouldn’t be a run chase without us trying to throw it away!

“But Ash McCafferty and Dale Hackney showed great composure to get us over the line.”

The victory was Southend’s third of the season and extended their unbeaten start to the season.

Their latest success came after Robbins won the toss and opted to put Woodford into bat.

With Michael Arblaster scoring an unbeaten 113, Woodford made 237/5 with Robbins the pick of Southend’s bowlers as he took three wickets for 51 runs.

In reply, Aaron Butcher and Phil Gray both hit 60 for Southend who reached their required total with two wickets to spare.
