LEE Novak has turned down to Southend United in favour of a switch to Charlton Athletic.

Blues boss Phil Brown met the striker for two rounds of talks, the second of which took place at Roots Hall last Tuesday.

But Novak has opted to join the Addicks, meaning Brown will now be chasing up alternative options.

“It’s disappointing to have missed out on Lee but he’s not the only striker we’ve been talking to and we will continue our talks with the others ones now,” said Brown.

“It was always going to be a real test to sign Lee because so many other clubs were interested in him but we did what we could.

“Financially, the chairman also really pushed the boat out to try and bring him here but Lee has chosen to go elsewhere and that’s entirely up to him.

“We have to continue to look elsewhere and continue our talks with the other players.

“Hopefully we are close to being able to announce two of three signings this week.”

Brown also confirmed he remained in talks with striker Nicky Clark who lined up for Glasgow Rangers last season.
