BILLERICAY surged back to winning ways with an 83 run victory against Hadleigh & Thundersley in a low scoring clash at John Burrows Park.

Third placed Billericay had suffered two successive defeats heading into Saturday’s game.

And skipper David Houghton was delighted to see his side get back on track.

“It was good to get back to winning ways on Saturday and the beers in the changing room always taste a lot better after a win than a loss,” said Houghton.

“It was a tricky pitch to bat on but Dave Hinnigan was destructive in the middle order for us and we had some important contributions at the tail end with Andy Smith and Gary Hynes having a crucial partnership which turned out to be a match winner.

“We understood they had a number of players missing including their skipper so were confident of defending 185 on a tricky batting wicket.

“All the bowlers chipped in with wickets so it was a pleasing performance all round.

“Hopefully it can trigger another successful period for us through the 50 over matches.”

Billericay were put into bat after losing the toss and were bowled out for 186.

David Hinningan top-scored with 47 before number nine batsman Andy Smith with 37 and number 10 Gary Hynes 36 added some crucial late runs to the innings.

Richard Revell was the pick of Hadleigh’s bowlers taking 3-31 while the returning Adam Fleming took 2-31.

David Williams chipped in with 2-32 but Hadleigh made just 103 in reply.

Revell, batting at number nine, top-scored with 26 not out, while Luke Smith made 22.

However, it was not enough to stop Hadleigh suffering a third successive defeat as they slumped to second bottom in the standings.
