FORGET Paul the Octopus and Nelly the Elephant…as when it comes to predicting football results at major tournaments then aren’t any more adept than those at Rayleigh Primary School.

Two years after winning the Echo’s World Cup predictions competition, the current crop have just scooped the winning prize after predicting the most correct results at this summer’s European Championships.

Finishing three points clear of Holt Farm Primary School, Rayleigh Primary have another trophy to add to their cabinet although they admitted they were surprised at the result.

Now Ella, Alex W, Connor, Alex S-B, Zoe, Liam, Leo and Sam look back at the competition, which ended with Portugal winning their first ever international prize.

Echo reporter Luke: Congratulations guys, you did a great job. How does it feel?

Ella: I am amazed we won to be honest!

Sam: I kept an eye on the results all the way through and knew we were winning so it is great to get a trophy.

Liam: We were away for one match but most of us watched very game and I really enjoyed it.

Alex W: Yeah, it was a good tournament. And there were some amazing goals.

Luke: What did you make of Portugal beating France in the final? And without (Cristiano) Ronaldo.

Liam: Portugal did really well to be fair.

Alex S-B: Although Ronaldo was injured it wasn’t a foul by (Dimitri) Payet. He rolled around a lot.

Sam: I play for Rayleigh Boys and I don’t do that when I get fouled.

Leo: I was surprised they won as I watched England beat them in a friendly before the tournament so for them to win is something special.

Connor: It was pretty good what he did from the sideline though when he was leading the team.

Zoe: They did well to win without Ronaldo though.

Luke: Who did you enjoy watching the most?

Ella: (Antoine) Grizemann scored some really important goals.

Alex W: I though (Gianluigi) Buffon was great for Italy and he is 38 so that is amazing.

Alex S-B: Payet was brilliant. His goals were all really good.

Sam: I thought the goalkeeper will the joggers (Hungary’s Gabor Kiraly) played well, and (Gareth) Bale was good too.

Luke: What did you make of England’s performances? Going out to Iceland was embarrassing wasn’t it?

Ella: Yes! We lost to a supermarket!

Sam: Iceland have a dentist for a manager. And he was better than Roy Hodgson.

Leo: (Raheem) Sterling was really bad. Had he even played a full game for Manchester City, even though he cost them £49 million? But Hodgson had to go.

Connor: I think he should have taken Andy Carroll. It was awful to watch.

Liam: (Marcus) Rashford should have played more than five minutes. He was good when he came on against Iceland.

Luke: All good points! Thanks guys and well done again.
