CLUB runners headed to East London to take part in the Great Newham London Run around the Olympic Park last weekend.
A total of 11,000 runners took part in the event, which was started by Olympic gold medallist and former World Champion Christine Ohuruogu on a hot day, with competitors finishing inside the Olympic Stadium.
Seven from Leigh-on-Sea Striders took to the streets, with Garry Maskell first back in 41:46. The other competitors from the club were Matt Barrett (42:54), Mark Armitage (51:28), Carla Allison (1:01:43), Pippa Reeve (1:02:36), Theresa Philips (1:06:26) and Tim Ketterer (1:06:26).
Five Rochford Runners Club members took part, with Adam Shaw taking club honours with a time of 44:14. Other finishers were Jason Goodman (56:59), Stuart Atling (1:03:56), Gabby Atling (1:13:32) and Claire Twidell (1:13:56).
Nine Castle Point Joggers entered, with Martin England the first man home in an impressive 43:39. Brian Welch crossed the line in 48:11, Albert Miles (1:04:56), Tracy Bliss (1:12:59), Laura Avery and Ben Avery (1:16:24), Debby Lincoln (1:20:45), Eloise Hewitt (1:20:46) and Clive Dunnico (1:25:13).
