DANNY Newth will face a tough test tomorrow night when he puts his Zero Tolerance lightweight crown on the line for the first time.

The Southend fighter faces unbeaten Newcastle pugilist Owen Lyons at the Zero 6 nightclub in his first title defence.

The bout was put back a fortnight due to technicalities with the licence for the Zero Tolerance promotion at the Aviation Way venue.

But now it is clear for take-off and Newth is ready for action.

“I’m more than ready, there’s no way I’m losing this title,” said the former Southend ABC member, who has been training at Southend Combat Academy.

“I’m feeling sharp and just can’t wait to get in there.”

Newth’s fight is the highlight of a card that includes the event’s promoter Giles Carter taking on former pro Andrew Cosnett in a light heavyweight bout.

Carter is raising money for Connor’s Rainbow Charity in aid of a youngster who has had his leg amputated due to cancer.

“I’ve tried the hardest I can in the two weeks since taking the fight and I’m looking forward to knocking him out,” said Carter, who has already raised £900 for the charity.

Other fights on the card include Newcastle’s Dan Lennon and Manchester’s James Higgy fighting for the Zero Tolerance British light heavy crown and light welterweight Matar Wade Sambou facing Dan Wright for the British title.

Also on the card is Dean Wood challenging Brian Morrison for the Zero Tolerance southern area title.

Ringside seats have sold out but standing tickets are available on the door for £30. Doors open at 7pm with boxing starting at 8pm.
