FINLAY Macintyre is keen to get Westcliff’s season back on track when they travel to Guildford in National Three London & SE this weekend.

Westcliff - who are 12th in the 14 team table - have lost five out of six so far this term.

But their performances have not always been reflected by their results.

And Macintyre is desperate to get back to winning ways against Guildford tomorrow.

“I think this is going to be another tough game and they will be honest guys with a solid defence but we’re excited about this game,” said the youngster.

“We are confident in ourselves and our chances this weekend but I think this is going to be another tight game.”

Guildford are currently two places higher than Westcliff.

But, despite the indifferent results, Macintyre has still been encouraged by his own side’s start.

“I think it’s been a good start despite only winning one game,” said Macintyre.

“We have played top six sides and only lost marginally in the closing minutes apart from Wimbledon which was just a bad day.

“It shows we have come a long way in terms of defence as they have all had been very low scoring games in terms of how many tries we conceded.

“Overall I think it’s been much better and we’re excited for mid table games.”

And Macintyre hopes victories in those matches will keep Westcliff out of trouble.

“Hopefully we can become a mid table team by the end of season,” said the former Seevic College student.

“I definitely feel as though we deserve to be in this league.

“But we need to go out and show that now, starting with a good result at Guildford.”
