TWO late tries saw South Woodham Ferrers beat Romford & Gidea Park 31-20 in London Two North East on Saturday.

The victory moved Woodham up to second in the table and delighted their head coach Tony Woods.

“It was another really good win for us,” said Woods.

“Adam Brown’s boot really helped us and his kicking out of hand and at goal was great.

“It’s something I hope continues for the rest of the season because we’ve got ourselves into a really strong position.

“It was also nice to be playing in front of our own crowd for just the second time this season and hopefully the fans will keep coming back after Christmas.

“The two games we have left before then are both away but we want to keep this run we’re on going.”

Woodham are now six points behind table-topping Diss with two games in hand but were forced to come from behind at the weekend as Romford raced into a 10-0 lead.

However, the home-side hit back with a try from David Bull which was impressively converted by Brown.

Moments later, Brown brilliantly worked his way through the visiting defence to touch down for a try he also converted to put Woodham 14-10 in front.

However, Romford hit back with a try after the break before another penalty from Brown made it 17-17 heading into the final 10 minutes.

Romford regained the lead with another penalty after Woodham had been reduced to 14 men but the visitors then also had a player yellow carded after he argued with the referee.

That handed Woodham a timely boost and they went back in front when Lewis Gilbert, supported by Ollie Trigg, broke through the line to score just three minutes before the end.

Brown added the conversion before Woodham bagged a try scoring bonus point right at the death when Warren Duggan touched down for a try which Brown again converted.

However, it was a disappointing day for Rochford Hundred as they were narrowly beaten 15-13 at Norwich.
