JASON Demetriou is keen to fire Southend United back to winning ways against Rochdale tomorrow.

The attack minded full-back, pictured above, has failed to score in 25 matches for the Shrimpers this season.

And he is desperate to break his duck this weekend.

“I’ve been getting a bit of stick from the lads and the manager about it and I should be scoring more so hopefully I’ll get one tomorrow to help us win the game,” said Demetriou.

“I actually had to apologise after the Swindon game after missing a good chance but I am getting in the right positions which is the encouraging thing.

“I’ve been unlucky on a couple of occasions with deflections and goal-line clearances but I also know it’s not been good enough.

“I work on in it in training and they tend to go in when I do but it’s in the matches where it matters.

“Hopefully one will go in soon and I’m confident it will.

“I attack enough so I should definitely chip in with a few goals and something I’ve always been able to do in the past so I need to start doing it here as well.”

However, Demetriou will not be the only player aiming to improve as Blues bid to bounce back from last weekend’s 4-2 defeat to Sheffield United.

The setback followed a 13 match unbeaten streak for the Shrimpers.

And Demetriou is now determined to get seventh placed Blues back on track as they look to move into the play-off positions.

“Sometimes you can over analyse it when you lose,” said the 29-year-old.

“You can think why did it happen but it’s also a positive in a way because we’re looking at ways we can improve.

“The boys are chomping at the bit to get back to winning ways.

“You get used to getting three points and you don’t want to reminded of that negative feeling you get when you lose. “We all know the next four of five games are very important but there’s no nervous tension.

“It’s just excitement and that’s a good sign.

“We need to make sure we’re on point defensively and then the other end will take care of itself.

“But Rochdale are a very strong side and we will need to play well to beat them.”

Rochdale are currently fifth in the League One table and have won their last six games.
