ROCHFORD Hundred’s director of rugby Michael Guess wants his side’s shock 24-5 win against high-flying Cantabrigian to be the sign of things to come.

Hundred’s impressive triumph moved them up to ninth in the London Two North East standings.

But Guess is now eager for Rochford to impress on a more consistent basis after enduring an up and down campaign to date.

“It was a very pleasing win at the weekend but we need to keep on performing at that level now,” said Guess.

“When we go out and play the way we know we can play we will beat anyone in the league and we showed that on Saturday.

“The little opportunities that we don’t take sometimes cost us.

“But the belief is there and the boys know what they can do.”

Rochford have now won five of their 14 fixtures so far this season.

But Guess is keen to improve that record.

And the former Southend prop forward is keen for Hundred to work their way up the table.

“We have been on the wrong end of some very close games this season which could have gone either way but I think things are starting to come together now,” said Guess.

“Hopefully we can start to push higher up the league as well.

“There is still only nine points between fourth place and 10th so a win can easily see you move up two or three places.

“That’s what we’re aiming to do and Saturday was a great win but we don’t want it to be a one off.

“We want it to be the start of what will follow.”

Despite the defeat, a strong Cantabrigian side remain third in the table.

And Guess was happy Rochford were able to match his pre-match target at Magnolia Road.

“I told the boys I wanted four tries before the game and it was great for them to go and achieve just that,” said Guess.

“It was a great feeling but with all the effort the boys are putting in at the moment it was a win they deserved.

“They’re working incredibly hard.

“But in one aspect I suppose the win was also a little bit frustrating because it shows what we’re capable of.

“Come this time of year though, the league table doesn’t lie so we can’t have any excuses being where we are and we just have to make sure we start to pick up more points in the remaining matches now.”

Rochford’s next outing is against second from bottom Holt this weekend.

And Guess is desperate to make it back to back victories.

“It’s always important to build on a win because you want to keep the momentum going,” said Guess.

“If we keep scoring those meat pies (tries) it will put us in good stead.”

Rochford impressed at the weekend with Matthew Bevan and Matthew White both touching down in the first half to put the home-team 12-5 up at half-time.

After the break, Matthew Stewart and Sam Edwards also touched down while captain Stewart added two conversions to seal an impressive victory.
