SEEVIC College students Jake Spivey and Jordan Dyer have been selected to play for the RFU London & South East under 18 side along with Thurrock based Ben Northfield.

The trio all impressed during trials to earn the call up.

And scrum half Spivey was delighted to be included in the squad.

“I was honestly shocked and surprised when I was given the opportunity to trial let alone get in and it still has not sunk in,” said the 18-year-old.

“While at Seevic I have been playing very important games so I have learnt to control my nerves which definitely helped on the day.

“When leaving school I had the choice between sixth form and college but I heard about the rugby at Seevic so opted to go there.

“The standard is much higher than I expected and it’s been really enjoyable.”

Spivey will now be lining up for south-east England against the south west next month in a game which will be watched by England’s under 18s scouts.

And Dyer, 17, cannot wait to take to the field.

“I was not expecting to get through although it really emphasises how far I have come since I have been at Seevic and I’m really looking forward to it,” said Dyer.

“The training programme is intense at Seevic but it is good.

Also selected - Ben Northfield

“We are all pushed and the level of coaching we receive is incredible.”

The duo are regularly put through their paces by the college’s director of rugby Danny Cleare, who was also thrilled by their selection.

“It is a great achievement for both students and is testament to the effort and commitment they have shown towards their rugby this year,” said Cleare.

“Jake has really developed his leadership qualities this season and coupled with his skill level, he has been a really prominent figure in our team.

“He organises play around him and distributes quick ball allowing us to attack at speed.

“Jordan is without a doubt the most focused and determined individual in our squad.

“In terms of standards and expectations he does everything right and demands the same standards from the people around him.”

Joining them in the squad will be Northfield, who has shone at Oaklands College this season.

The youngster can play at centre, fly half and full-back and has captained Oaklands’ first team on several occasions.
