KEY Southend United duo Anton Ferdinand and Michael Timlin could miss tonight’s vital clash at Peterborough as their partners are due to give birth.

Ferdinand is also doubtful with the calf problem he picked up against Northampton Town on Saturday.

But Blues boss Phil Brown is not yet sure which of his players will be available for the trip to London Road.

“There are some big decisions to make before tonight’s game and we have one or two lads whose wives could be going into labour so that might be a key selection when it comes to selecting the team,” said Brown.

“It’s an exciting and important time for both Anton and Michael so we will be waiting on news but Anton could well miss out with the calf problem.

“There’s certainly a lot to be taking into consideration and I haven’t named the team yet.”

The Shrimpers head into this evening’s game sitting sixth in the League One standings, three places and three points higher than Posh.

And Brown hopes to be catching the hosts at a good times.

“Peterborough have one or two key players missing,” said Brown.

“(Anthony) Grant is out, (Chris) Forrester is out and (Gwion) Edwards probably is too.

“It looks like they could be lacking a midfield but I’m only focusing on us and making sure we get things right because a win here would get us right back on track.

“It’s a very important game and one we will need to go and win.”

Blues will also be looking to return to winning ways after being held to a 2-2 draw at home to Northampton Town on Saturday.

And Brown could opt to freshen up his strike-force with Nile Ranger and Theo Robinson pushing for starts after impressing off the bench.

“It’s our third game in a week and it might be time to rest some weary legs,” said the Blues boss.

“We will look at the GPS system we use and analyse everything we’ve got in our locker.

“We have people who are pushing to start but we’ve got 38 points from 20 games and there’s a lot to admire about our consistency levels.

“But we need to look forward and push on so we must pick a team that will be able to run and go and win the game this evening.”
