GILLINGHAM boss Ady Pennock felt referee Dean Whitehead got the big decisions right in his side’s 2-1 win against Southend United.
Shrimpers boss Phil Brown was furious with the penalty Gills were awarded in the first half, along with the dismissal of centre-back Ryan Inniss just before the break.
But Pennock though the officials were right on both occasions.
“It was a second yellow card for Inniss, I didn’t know he had his first to be honest but he’s tripped our lad up and I don’t know why it took so long to sort,” said Pennock.
“For the penalty I also thought their defender got the wrong side of him and lunged in so it was a penalty.
“Southend are not going to be happy but I don’t want to talk about them or the referee, I want to talk about Gillingham Football Club and a big three points.
“I’m sure we will have decisions go against us and I will be disappointed but I said all along the officials are human and I will never slag them off.”
Gillingham’s victory also ended a run of 11 games without a win and handed Pennock his first victory in charge of the Kent club.
But the 45-year-old insisted it was his players who deserved all the praise.
“The players deserve those three points more than anyone else and I am very proud of them,” said Pennock.
“We need to build on it now.”
