BILLERICAY Town goal machine Billy Bricknell says he is the happiest he has been on a football pitch in a long time after he scored his 200th career goal.

The Town striker has 14 goals to his name since joining at the end of November from Chelmsford City, and is looking to fire Billericay into the Ryman Premier League play-off positions come the end of April.

Bricknell, 28, netted a brace against Hendon at the weekend to take his tally of career goals to 200, and he is looking to add to that tally at Enfield Town tonight.

“I am very proud to get to 200 career goals and I am buzzing to be fair,” he said. “I will now look to reach 250 and that is how I tend to get focus, by looking at the next milestone.

“I think I have around 70 goals for Billericay (having played for more than two years between 2007 and 2010) and have 14 this season for them so far and 21 in total.

“If, in the 13 games we have left, I can get to about 25 goals that would be brilliant and it would get me more than 30 for the season.

“We believe we can reach the play-offs. First and foremost we have to win games and if I can score the goals that help us there then that is great.

“It is the happiest I have been playing football for a while. What (owner) Glenn (Tamplin) has said and done so far is great and everyone that goes to New Lodge is so happy.

“It is a good place to be at. We know going up this year is a big ask for us all but with this squad you would be mad not to try and win every game.”

Bricknell has struck up an effective partnership with target-man Adam Cunnington, with 10 goals between them in the five games they have played after Cunnington’s arrival from Bromley.

And Bricknell says he is enjoying playing alongside the 6ft 3in striker - with Town having won seven of their last eight matches in all competitions and reached the Ryman League Cup final.

“I have played with a big man throughout my career,” he said. “I played with Ben May at Dover and it worked then as well.

“The first few games takes some getting used to but now we have 10 goals in five games. He is scoring and the whole team is doing well.

“We are still taking it game by game. We are in the middle of a good spell, aside from the Grays defeat (1-0) and that was a bad day at the office for us.

“We are looking to win every game we play but are not overconfident. But you need to be confident at the same time.”
