BILLERICAY Town goalkeeper Jordan Carey says it has been “a crazy couple of weeks” after he became an internet sensation.

A video of the goalkeeper, on loan at Cray Valley Paper Mills in the Southern Counties East Football League, went viral last week after his reaction to conceding a goal.

In a league game against Ashford, Carey conceded a penalty and although the kick hit the bar the rebound was scored, causing the stopper to punch and headbutt the post in fury.

The 18-year-old, who is yet to make his Billericay first-team debut, has since appeared on hit football show Soccer AM, meeting Tottenham defender Danny Rose and rapper Stormzy.

“It has been good,” said Carey, who joined Billericay from Margate on Christmas Eve last year. “I was surprised it blew up as much as it did but it’s been fun.

“It was a big league game for us as Ashford had just beaten us in the cup. It was 2-2 and then I cleaned out one of their players in the box and got booked.

“I was given a lifeline when they missed the kick and but for me the defenders had to stop the rebound.”

“I took it out on the post as I am passionate on the pitch. Football is my outlet and the fans were giving me stick throughout the game.

“I saw the video the next day and when it when on Twitter it went everywhere. Even (Stoke City goalkeeper) Jack Butland was talking about it.”

Carey is still waiting to make his bow at Billericay having arrived as the understudy to Jack Giddens but, following the arrival of Alan Julian, he admits his future at the club is unclear.

“I was due to return at the end of the season but I don’t know what the situation is now,” he said. “I was mainly the under-21s keeper.

“I was always on the bench as Jack was playing but a lot has changed at the club now so I don’t know what the future holds for me.”
