BILLERICAY Town closed to within three points of the play-off positions with a 3-0 win at lowly Kingstonian.

A Billy Bricknell brace and a late strike from substitute Mekhi McLeod ensured Billericay gave their top five hopes a real shot in the arm.

Town were by far the brighter in the opening exchanges.

However, Alan Julian was forced into a decent save between the posts for Billericay, with captain Rob Swaine coming close up the other end but his header was comfortably saved.

Ollie Sprague’s free-kick was blocked before Town did get the breakthrough.

Joe Ellul was pulled down in the penalty area on the half hour and Bricknell shot low underneath the goalkeeper, who did get a hand to the kick.

And it was to get even better for the visitors and Bricknell shortly before the interval.

Adam Cunnington, so effective in forward positions alongside Bricknell, nodded down and the latter powered home.

Billericay were in total control and started the second-half in a similar vein.

Debutant Byron Lawrence sent a free-kick wide of the post, while Julian was required to make a splendid save up the other end.

Substitute Chris Assombalonga came close more than once before a fellow replacement made sure in the final moments.

McLeod drove into the bottom corner after a fine ball from Matt Johnson as Billericay wrapped up the result.
