CONCORD Rangers manager Adam Flanagan has called on his team to control the outcome of their season after taking just one point from six over the weekend.

Saturday’s narrow 2-1 defeat at Hungerford Town was followed by a 1-1 draw at Wealdstone on Monday evening, with Concord conceding goals in the final 10 minutes of both matches.

The results leave the Beach Boys seven points above the National League South relegation places with only seven games to play.

But Flanagan was pleased with his team’s performances, and is confident they will be competing in the second tier of non-league football next term.

“We performed well in both games but unfortunately didn’t get a higher yield of points due to the odd mistake in both fixtures,” he said. “We were very positive with the ball, we had good movement without it and our work rate was fantastic so if we continue with these traits then we will be fine.

“I think we will need two wins to stay up and that these can be achieved against any of the teams we face in the remaining seven games.

“I want us to control the outcome of our season and not have to rely on what results the teams around us are getting.”

That will continue against Hemel Hempstead Town on Saturday, with Flanagan hoping for a quieter afternoon than he had last Saturday.

The Concord boss was sent off against Hungerford following a touchline altercation, although he confirmed it is a decision he has appealed.

He was also full of praise for Beach Boys favourite Sam Collins, who started his first match since January 21 because of a knee problem.

Having missed much of last season with a broken leg, Collins is determined to play a part in the closing weeks of the season.

And Flanagan said it was great to have him at his disposal once again, ahead of an operation in the summer.

“Sam started at Wealdstone and played well,” he said.

“He has had a torn cartilage all season and requires an operation in the summer.

“After missing last year he didn’t want to miss a further season of football and it was good to see him playing again after having a period out of the team.”
