KIERAN Yeomans is in line to make his first senior start for Southend Saxons tomorrow.

Saxons host Tonbridge Juddians, who have already been crowned league champions, at Warners Bridge.

And Yeomans is keen to help Southend finish their National Three London & SE season on a high.

“It would be an honour to wear a starting jersey,” said Yeomans, who lives in East Tilbury.

“I hope I can do the position justice as I would like to make this a first start of many but we’re facing the league champions so I’m expecting the game to be very fast, physical and intense.”

Southend go into the game having already secured their safety after claiming five successive victories.

But Yeomans believes there is still plenty to play for.

“As in all competitive sport there is no such thing as a dead rubber,” said the youngster.

“From the Southend perspective we have had a recent run of wins and want to carry that on for the team and from a personal point of view if I’m selected as one of the younger players I personally have a lot to prove.”

Yeomans has featured on the bench for the first team in recent weeks and believes his versatility has boosted his chances of a call up.

“I think I have become a much better player with the flexibility of playing in several positions,” said Yeomans.

“I’m looking forward to next season and trying to be involved in the first team matches on a more regular basis.

“That’s my aim.”
