SOUTH Essex golfers Daniel Brooks, Matthew Southgate and Richard McEvoy travelled to Scandinavia to compete in the PGA European Tour’s Nordea Masters.

An impressive 156 golfers travelled to Barsebäck Golf & Country Club, Malmö, Sweden to compete for the title.

Italian Renato Paratore was the winner of the Nordea Masters after finishing 11 below par.

But Brooks, Southgate and McEvoy performed admirably, as they all finished in the top 80.

Basildon-born Brooks, 30, came joint 57th after completing the course three over par.

The Mill Hill Golf Club member was joined by fellow countryman Simon Dyson, Nacho Elvira of Spain, Australian Sam Brazel and Felipe Aguilar in 57th place.

Southgate was not much further behind, in joint 65th.

Southgate, along with South African Zander Lombard and Andrew Dodt of Australia, required 297 strokes to complete the course.

As a result, Thorpe Hall member Southgate, 28, was five over par.

However, McEvoy was unable to get below par.

The Shoeburyness born Thorpe Hall golfer was in joint-80th place after finishing three over par.

McEvoy, 37, was joined 80th place by 14 others, including fellow Englishmen Marcus Armitage, Oliver Fisher and Sam Walker.

Brooks, Southgate and McEvoy will be looking to build on their promising performances in the Lyoness Open.

The Austrian competition kicks off today.
