MICHAEL Kightly is closing in on a return to Southend United, Echosport understands.
The Basildon born 31-year-old has held advanced transfer talks with Phil Brown in the past two days.
And the winger - who also started his professional career with the Shrimpers - is now understood to be close to making a comeback.
Kightly scored once in 19 games during his initial spell with Blues before being released in 2005.

However, the former Chalvedon School pupil rejuvenated his career during a successful period with Grays Athletic.
Kightly’s fine form saw him snapped up by Wolves before he also went on to play for Watford, Stoke, Burnley, and Burton. He also represented England at under 21 level.
