MARC Harrison says he is hugely excited at the start of Basildon United’s Essex Senior League season tomorrow.

The former Basildon Town manager took over the reins in May, following the departure of Aaron Bloxham.

And, having secured a league and cup double in the league last season, Harrison is hoping he can enjoy another successful season this time around.

“We are happy with how pre-season has gone and we are ready to go,” he said.

“We have had to adapt as a lot of the guys I have brought across are from the Olympian leagues.

“But we feel ready to get underway and I am really looking forward to it.

“I am excited and I promised myself I wouldn’t get too wrapped up in the unknown.

“I want to know what is coming and prepare the team as best as possible.”

Basildon host Clapton tomorrow in what promises to an exciting encounter, with a host of away fans expected to make the trip.

And Harrison said he is hopeful that the clash will be a good indication of the progress made by the team over the summer.

“I am pleased that Clapton are coming to us,” he said.

“We hope to get some good crowds this season and want to tap into the community as much as we possibly can. This game will be a good starting indication at the progress the club has made so far.

“Games come thick and fast and we will learn quickly about what we need to change.

“We have spent a lot on the improvements and spent a lot of time at the club in the evenings.

“The players have been chipping in as well, painting and helping things along.

“Whatever our ambitions, a start to the season is important,” added Harrison.

“We need to set the tone early on and be enjoyable to watch, that is something I have said to the players.

“I want to entertain and if we can structure the club in the right way then it will be positive on all fronts.”
