Former England international defender Steven Caulker is set to make his first appearance since admitting to his struggles with depression, alcohol and gambling addiction when Queens Park Rangers face Billericay Town in a pre-season friendly tonight.
Caulker featured in a tell-all interview with a national newspaper in June, where he admitted to his problems off the pitch.
But the central defender is set to make his comeback at Billericay Town’s AGP Arena, after Caulker was named on the Queens Park Rangers team sheet for the hastily-arranged friendly.
Caulker, 25, has played for the likes of Tottenham Hotspur, Cardiff City and Liverpool during his career, while he also made five appearances for Team GB at the London 2012 Olympics.
The ex-Queens Park Rangers captain scored on his only England appearance, in a 4-2 defeat to Sweden in 2012.
But Caulker has not made a senior appearance since Queens Park Rangers’ 2-0 defeat to Brentford in October.
Caulker returned to training with the Championship club 10 days ago.
