It’s always a good feeling to get off to a good start on the opening weekend.

The longer it takes to get a positive result the more pressure that surrounds the following fixtures so to get all three on Saturday at Aveley was a big plus.

The nature of non league means you don’t get much of a chance to enjoy it for more than an hour or so before you have to start planning for the game tonight and the following Saturday.

We play Witham tonight, who have scored 10 goals against us in the last two matches and we need to be at the best we can be tonight to get any points.

Then we turn our attentions to the FA Cup. There were only six teams in the whole draw we could have been paired with that finished higher then us last season.

And of course we were bound to pull one of those six out! We welcome Haringey Borough, who pipped us to the Essex Senior League title in 2015 and then to the league play off places last season.

But it is an exciting draw and should make for a great FA Cup tie.

There were some interesting results locally, and I am pleased to see Concord Rangers and East Thurrock making solid starts in the National League South.

Getting points early on is important and I think both can be set a top half finish as a minimum.

The result at Billericay will be a great surprise to many and it is evident a lot of people are taking pleasure in it. But these things happen and Craig Edwards is experienced and would have know how to deal with the occasion.

It is going to be a big season for them this year and one bad result won’t be too damaging.

In our league, Canvey are the favourites in many peoples eyes. Most predictions sway towards them and, although the nature of the draw at Sudbury might disappoint them it is a good draw for them I think.

Their success this year will be visible over 10/15 games, rather than just one.
