SOUTHEND United’s assistant manager Graham Coughlan is confident the Shrimpers will be back to their best against Plymouth Argyle tomorrow.

The Shrimpers were seen off 5-0 by Rotherham United last weekend.

But Coughlan is certain Blues will respond in the right way at Roots Hall.

“The boys are hurting and I’m pretty sure they will correct the problems and what went wrong at Rotherham,” said the Irishman.

“We got tanked at Rotherham and there’s no hiding that but it happens during the course of the season.

“It’s an eye opener but the players will lift themselves.

“They will know it wasn’t good enough and they will bounce back so I’m actually really looking forward to this game.”

Southend triumphed at home on the opening day of the season, beating Blackburn Rovers 2-1.

But Coughlan insists Blues will not be getting carried away with the varying emotions.

“We never get too high when we win and we won’t panic when we lose,” said the 42-year-old.

“There are lessons to be learned and you take more from defeat than you do from winning.

“There’s an inquest and certain things come to light but I think you should probably do that when you win as well.”

Blues will be hoping to secure the three points this weekend, in a game which sees Coughlan facing his former side.

But, despite winning back-to-back titles with the Pilgrims, he regrets not securing a third promotion.

“I really enjoyed it at Plymouth but the one regret I have is we could’ve gone again and got out of the Championship if we had stuck together,” he added.
