BASILDON United suffered their first defeat of the season to relinquish their place at the top of the Essex Senior League standings.

The Bees fell to a 2-1 defeat to Enfield 1893 at the Stuart Bingham Stadium.

Enfield 1893 scored twice after the break to take control of proceedings.

Ash Blackman gave Marc Harrison’s side hope, as his shot squirmed through the visiting goalkeeper’s hands with six minutes remaining but the hosts could not find a way back into the game.

Meanwhile, Great Wakering Rovers claimed a 2-0 win over Ilford.

Jake Gordon set up Neil Richmond for a tap-in after just seven minutes.

And Scott Pethers ensured there was no way back for Ilford as his 25-yard volley found the back of the net after 26 minutes.

Southend Manor missed out in a seven-goal thriller as West Essex ran out 4-3 winners.

Manor took a 3-1 lead into the final 15 minutes, but finished the game with eight men.

West Essex also had a man sent off but hit a last minute winner.
