FA Cup second qualifying round replay

JAKE Robinson hit a second FA Cup hat-trick this season as Billericay Town dismantled Thamesmead Town 5-0 in their second qualifying round replay.

Robinson hit three goals in 23 minutes, with Adam Cunnington Town and Louie Theophanous also on target, although Rob Swaine saw red.

Town had also been reduced to playing with 10 men for much of Saturday’s match and were strong favourites for a replay on home turf.

And they started excellently. Several early free-kicks were well defended by Thamesmead but Billericay were to take an early lead.

Fine early wing play from Theophanous saw him engineer space on the left flank and send over a cross that Robinson flicked over goalkeeper Lewis Carey and into the far corner.

Town were well on top. Theophanous saw several strikes blocked away, while Robinson rolled an effort past the far post, to the surprise of many.

But the striker was to net his 14th of the season shortly afterwards.

Neat play saw the ball fall to Deering on the right and his centre was slotted home by the former Brighton & Hove Albion forward.

A hat-trick in the last round, Robinson wanted his second match ball of the competition and it came with less than 30 minutes on the clock.

Having seen his initial shot blocked, Robinson sent the rebound inside the far post to all but secure Town’s progress.

Town were first to every ball and the fourth goal was excellently worked, with Elliot Kebbie sending in a delightful first-time ball for Cunnington to head home.

No changes at half-time, Billericay picked up from where they left off after the interval.

Theophanous got on the scoresheet with a low finish after manoeuvring the ball onto his right foot.

But midway through the half, Thamesmead were awarded a penalty and a further boost when home captain Rob Swaine was dismissed.

Deemed the last man, Swaine was sent off as Town continued to see red in games this term.

However, Alex Teniola’s penalty was high and wide as Town secured a third qualifying round tie against Hungerford Town.
