JAKE Robinson says he is enjoying his football more than he ever has before after his hat-trick helped Billericay Town progress in the FA Cup.

Billericay beat Thamesmead Town 5-0 in Tuesday’s second qualifying round replay, with Adam Cunnington and Louie Theophanous also on the scoresheet.

Robinson is in fine scoring form - his treble took him up to 14 goals in 10 matches so far this season - and has already netted seven FA Cup goals this term.

And the former Brighton & Hove Albion striker said he was pleased to help the team progress.

“I never get sick or bored of scoring goals,” said Robinson, 30. “I always want more and the results are going well too.

“I am enjoying my football more than I have in a long time. To be fair, I enjoyed last season and it has continued into this. I am loving it more than I ever did before.

“It is my best run in the competition, I think,” he added.

“I scored a hat-trick in the first round, once against Northwich when I was at Brighton (in 2006) and one in the next round but this is my most free-scoring run, I would say.

“I have always enjoyed the cup and done quite well in it. I just want to score goals.

“Sunday’s 1-1 draw at Thamesmead, as well as some of the results on Saturday, showed that the FA Cup does funny things to teams.

“I don’t think Sunday’s result was a shock, they deserved to stay in it and may have felt they deserved more.

“We did a professional job and that is what we have to be doing in the cup if we want to go on these runs everyone is talking about.”

Billericay will travel to National League South outfit Hungerford Town in the third qualifying round a week on Saturday.

Having played teams in the tier below in the previous two rounds, Town will likely find a trip to Berkshire a tougher assignment.

“It will be a good test for us,” said Robinson, who has netted 21 goals in 18 matches since joining the club for a record fee in March.

“I had a very bad time there last season when I was with Hemel Hempstead. I missed a penalty and we lost 3-0 so I have a bit of revenge on my mind.

“But they are a team in the league above and we might go into it as slight underdogs, which might be nice for us.

“When we have been up against it in games (against Leatherhead and Thamesmead) we have responded well and we have shown grit and determination to get over the line.

“It bodes well for us.”
