BOWERS & Pitsea defender John Easterford believes perspective is important ahead of tomorrow’s game against Potters Bar Town.

Bowers have only won two of their last seven matches, following Tuesday’s 2-0 Velocity Cup reverse against Grays Athletic.

However, they are unbeaten in their last three league matches and victory tomorrow could lift Bowers as high as second in the Isthmian North.

And the 31-year-old former Concord Rangers, Canvey Island and East Thurrock centre-back says Bowers are in good shape ahead of the match against the division newcomers, following their switch from the Evo-Stik League South East.

“Perspective is important and we are happy as a group,” he said.

“We have had some tough fixtures - Haringey Borough beat Welling United (two divisions higher) in the FA Cup so they are proving to be a very talented side.

“The only game we didn’t turn up for was the Canvey match but we are usually really competitive. Take out the defeat against Grays and we have done well.

“We are putting everything into the league and this is an important match.”

The two teams are deadlocked on 13 points - although Bowers have played a game more.

And Easterford believes the challenge will be ‘interesting’.

“I have played them a few times but never at this level,” said Easterford.

“All the reports we have had back is they are a good, well-drilled team.

“Their set-piece is key to them and we need to prepare for that.

“They are able to approach this league in the same way we did last year, as they are newcomers, so we know we can’t take them for granted and it is an interesting one. It is one we will be aiming to win, of course.”

Easterford is yet to taste success this season, with four defeats and one victory to date, although he feels Bowers were unlucky against Grays.

He added: “The two goals were down to two mistakes and we have been punished. It is not something that has happened much but we have moved past it.”

THE PREVIEW: Bowers & Pitsea appear to have come out the other side of their recent lull, with back-to-back league wins and clean-sheets.

While Tuesday’s cup defeat to Grays Athletic was not part of the plan, Bowers can now focus on their league charge.

Potters Bar are new to the division, having transferred across from the Evo-Stik League South East in the summer, but have made an early impact.

Having already secured an emphatic away win at Cheshunt, the Hertfordshire side have secured some impressive cup results, beating Bishop’s Stortford and drawing with Hampton & Richmond Borough (who they lost to in an FA Cup replay this week).

MEN TO WATCH: Potters Bar have shared the goals around this season, with Michael Murray, Sean Grace and Eoin Casey all dangerous in forward areas.
