THE MATCH: Canvey Island will be hopeful of continuing an upward trend in form when perennial strugglers Romford visit tomorrow.

The Gulls are unbeaten in five league matches and have won three of their last four, including Tuesday’s emphatic 4-1 win against Dereham Town.

Romford are second from bottom and have tasted success just once so far this season. Five defeats in a row and only one goal in that time - and none in the last four - means they are likely in for a difficult ask tomorrow.

A win could lift Canvey as high as fourth in the standings.

THE INSIGHT: “We have learned that you have no right to win any game,” said assistant manager Joe Keith. “We always attempt to do that but you must do the basics well. We did well against Dereham - we scored at the right times and were able to build on it.

“Magic (Romford boss Paul Martin) always puts together a good team and it’s a miracle how he does it so it will be hard but if we apply ourselves then we fancy our chances.

“We have watched them but told our players that we need to focus on ourselves.

“We are working hard and we can’t worry about what others think as we look to push on.”

THE TEAM NEWS: Goalkeeper Henry Newcombe is banned, with a replacement incoming as fellow stopper Conor Gough continues to struggle with injury. James Walker returns.
