Woking 1–1 Concord Rangers

FA Cup fourth qualifying round

A LATE goal denied Concord Rangers a famous win at Woking, as the struggling Beach Boys put in an outstanding display to draw 1-1 in the FA Cup.

Steve Cawley’s wonder goal looked as though it would be enough, only for the National League team to level seven minutes from time.

The Beach Boys handed a start to under-18 captain Jed Smith at full-back, and he was set for a busy afternoon against the National League high-flyers.

It was away goalkeeper Louis Wells that was called into action first, standing strong to keep out Joe Ward after he was played through.

But Concord were creating openings of their own. Khale Da Costa blazed wildly over when well placed, with former East Thurrock midfielder Kane Ferdinand heading over up the other end.

The breakthrough came on 35 minutes and it was a terrific goal.

Cawley twisted and turned past four Woking opponents before curling an effort inside the post.

A goal to the good at half-time, Concord would have wanted a solid start to the second period, which is what they got.

Woking failed to capitalise on their possession, Ward and Richard Orlu with half chances for the home side.

But the goal was to come. Jamie Philpot swept the ball home following a cross from Jason Banton as the game ended all square.
