East Thurrock United 0-1 Hemel Hempstead Town

(Sheringham 26’)

From the FutureFuel Stadium

National League South

A SOLITARY goal from the son of an England great was enough for Hemel Hempstead Town to see off East Thurrock United.

Charlie Sheringham, son of Teddy, scored the only goal of the game on 26 minutes to settle an encounter that rarely sparked into life.

The striker struck clinically having been afforded too much space in one of few moments of quality at The FutureFuel Stadium.

The strike beat stand-in goalkeeper Ashlee Jones, who had been brought in as a last minute replacement for Rocks’ only goalkeeper Lukas Lidakevicius, who was laid low with a virus.

Jack Paxman, on loan from Maidstone United, also struggled to make an impact in a game that rarely threatened to burst into life.

East Thurrock looked most likely from set-pieces, with Max Cornhill always a threat, but the away stopper was able to field his efforts relatively easily.

The second 45 minutes was played out without a clear-cut chance for either side, as Rocks dropped to ninth in the National League South standings.
