CANVEY Island secured a third win in succession, beating Chingford 18-10.

The victory saw Canvey stay fifth in the London Three Essex standings and pleased their director of rugby Perry Sansom.

“We were unlucky on a couple of occasions when the final pass went astray and we missed out on the four try bonus point,” said Sansom.

“But overall I was very pleased with the performance.”

Canvey opened the scoring 15 minutes into the match when number eight Harry Atkins made a break from his own half before popping the ball out to supporting flanker Charlie Clarke who went over for an unconverted try.

The Islanders remained on top and were now spending more time in the Campion half.

From just outside the Campion 22 the ball was put through several pairs of hand and second row Sam Tape finished of an excellent passage of play to score his first try for Canvey to make it 10-0.

Campion hit back with a try of their own before the Islanders replied when another try from Clarke which put them 15-7 ahead at half-time.

The second half continued in the same way with the Islanders looking the more dangerous of the two teams.

However, a few passes did not quite hit the intended target and it was Campion who scored first after the break with a penalty which kept them in the game.

But Canvey’s John Edwards then also sent a successful kick through the posts which left Campion needing to score twice to get back in the game - something they were unable to do.
