THE MATCH: Canvey Island visit Barking in a battle between two of the league’s form teams.

The Gulls were emphatic winners in their last league match against Grays Athletic and have suffered just one defeat in their last 14 league encounters.

A 2-0 home defeat against Romford in the Essex Senior Cup in midweek wasn’t part of the plan, and they will need to step it up tomorrow.

Top of the form guide, Barking are unbeaten in their last seven league matches and have won five of those clashes.

That run has taken Justin Gardner’s team to the cusp of the play-off places, with just goal difference separating them from Bury Town.

Having played more matches than the chasers, Canvey cannot afford to drop more points tomorrow afternoon.

THE INSIGHT: “We had a bit of a bad night on Tuesday,” said boss Danny Heale. “We were struggling with unavailability. But fair play to Romford, we were poor in the second half and they made us pay.

“Make no mistake it is about the league for us. Although until I assess the injury situation, I don’t know where we will be at tomorrow.

“But we are looking forward to the game and this is a run of six games which could make or break us. Barking, Haringey Borough, Potters Bar Town, Heybridge Swifts, Maldon & Tiptree and Hornchurch is a tough ask but we will have to see where we are after this run.

“I watched Barking play Aveley and it wasn’t great but they won and are working hard.

THE TEAM NEWS: A number of players will be assessed ahead of kick-off.
