SOUTHEND United striker Theo Robinson will head to Portsmouth this weekend feeling full of confidence.

Robinson netted in Blues’ 2-0 win against Colchester United last time out before scoring a hat-trick in a behind closed doors friendly at Roots Hall.

And the 28-year-old will therefore be heading to Fratton Park in good spirits.

“My confidence had maybe been a little bit low so it was good to get the goal against Colchester and I feel much better about things now,” said Robinson.

“Following it up with a hat-trick was another plus and so was getting more minutes under my belt so I’ll be going into the Portsmouth game in really good spirits now.”

Robinson has mainly been used from the bench for Blues this season and has made just one league start so far.

But the former Jamaica international is now pushing for further opportunities.

“Obviously you’’ll help the team any way you can and sometimes when you’re coming off the bench that means you’re keeping the ball in the corner or doing whatever is needed,” said Robinson.

“You get more opportunities to show what you can do when you’re starting a game and hopefully I’ll get the chance to do that soon.

Robinson has netted twice for Blues this term and is now keen to score more in order to show off his new celebration which he first displayed against Colchester.

“We thought it would be good to just stand and pose,” laughed Robinson.

“It made for a good picture and hopefully there will be a few more of them now.”

Robinson's goal came in his first appearance since a disappointing night at Billericay Town in the Essex Senior Cup.

The striker missed a trio of clear-cut chances in a 7-3 defeat but was keen to look at the positives.

"I should have scored and on another night they would have gone in but at least I was getting in the right places to score," said Robinson.

"If I hadn't done that then I would really have had to look at myself."
